More and more people are now wild camping. There is a real buzz to going wild, forgetting work and the hustle and bustle of modern living and getting into the wilds and heading out into the blue yonder. Wild camping can be done solo or with a friend and you do not need that much equipment. All you need is the basic kit and enough food for the trip. Leave the area as you found it.
Take a mid size daysack that everything you need will fit into it with comfort.Remember we are trying to save on weight.
This is not a long haul trip but short overnight or weekend trips
If you are going to Spain for a week you will need a good amount of clothing but not for wild camping.Of course you will have good walking trousers, boots, a base layer, mid layer and a waterproof jacket. If it
rains you will be glad you packed a jacket. Also on the list would be change of socks and underwear is also a good idea.
Camping cookers and stoves come in many forms and all have their uses. It depends on what you want to do. Do you want to burn
wood or carry gas or maybe alcohol gel. If you are inexperienced then seek some advice on cookers. Wood burning stoves are now
becoming very popular for wild camping.
You will use plenty of water as you’ll be using it for tea / coffee and cooking. I would not use the water for washing as it will use
up a valuable resource. Find a stream and if you have one, use a water treatment kit.
The food is your choice and you can take what you like. Ration packs designed for camping are good and save on weight. Take
some bacon and beans for breakfast.
For food, pretty much anything goes.
Decide on what type of sleeping kit you will need. Do you want a hammock, can you use it where you
are going ? What about a small tent or a basha and bivi bag. The basha and bivi bag is the lightest way to travel.
It is vital that you take a warm sleeping bag if you are camping in the UK. A good sleeping bag will give you a good nights
sleep. It is worth considering a sleeping mat. These give extra comfort and are very lightweight.
