There are 3 main kinds of magazines used for Airsoft.
High caps magazines are large capacity and a bog standard high capacity airsoft magazines will take around 400 to 600 pellets. This type are operated by a wheel at the bottom of the magazine which you turn to feed the bbs up the a tube and ready to fire. A certain amount of wheel turning is needed to coil the spring and force the bb's up the magazine tube.
The Mid Cap magazines are now the most common magazines used in Airsoft and hold around 140 bb's. There is no wheel to turn and the spring is compressed when the bb's are loaded. This is more silent magazine when moving around and liked by experienced players.
Low Caps
Low capacity magazines, are made to reflect the the real deal. These magazines are used mainly for special games to replicate the a real life situation on the field. Holding around 30 bbs.
Pistol Magazines fall into 2 sections. Green gas and CO2. See our section on Airsoft Gas
What magazine should i use?
Most players now use mid caps but experiment with some different types and see what your prefer. It will not take you long to decide. For good maintenance is is best if keep some gas in the mags and not let them dry up.Try and keep the seals under as small amount of pressure. This will help to stop leaking mags.I would also suggest to run some Maintenance gas if you re going to stored away.
